Dear Fellow Landscape Architects,
On behalf of the Georgia Chapter of ASLA (GAASLA), we encourage you to make your contribution to the GAASLA Legal Defense Fund, as it may well be the smartest investment you could make for the future of your livelihood. In doing so, you’ll be strengthening the profession of landscape architecture in the state of Georgia by securing our legal right-to-practice storm water management and design.
The GAASLA Legal Defense Fund (LDF) was established by the GAASLA Executive Committee in January 2007 for the sole purpose of legally defending against an upsurge of attacks on our legal right to stamp/seal storm water management plans by the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District (MNGWPD). In 2006 the MNGWPD, an appointed board which oversees the distribution of water and sewer services in the 16-county Atlanta Metro area, passed a model storm water ordinance which overtly excludes Landscape Architects from the storm water management portions of a site design project. Although LAs have historically been champions and pioneers regarding sustainable storm water design and management, many counties within the MNGWPD have heedlessly followed suit, and practice areas for our profession have effectively been reduced.
Although we are currently unable to discuss specific details, GAASLA is strategically positioned to undertake a legal challenge in the immediate future to regain our legal rights. We seek to reverse the renegade measures instituted by the MNGWPD, and we intend to re-establish the legal parameters of the profession of landscape architecture in the state of Georgia.
Thanks to the generous past contributions from GAASLA members and a licensure grant from ASLA national, we currently boast $35,000 in the Legal Defense Fund. However, our legal counsel has estimated that we’ll need more than $60,000 to sustain a legal challenge of this scope, so we have $30,000 more to go.
Be a catalyst and contribute today to the GAASLA Legal Defense Fund!
It is critical that we all act now and donate as generously as possible in one mass effort to take back our legal right-to-practice. As a landscape architect, you have a whole lot more to lose than any amount you could donate.
Many thanks in advance!
