Want to get the most out of your ASLA membership?

Georgia ASLA is always looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers.  Whether you have 20 years of experience or are a recent grad looking to network and build leadership skills - we look forward to working with you!  

​There are multiple ways to get involved. Please review the different open committee, event, and initiative positions below and consider joining one or two. A few new committees created this year include Awards, Continuing Education, and Emerging Professional Committee.

Please consider nominating yourself or a qualified colleague when the time comes.  In the meantime, please consider joining one of our many committees!

Advocacy Committee

JOIN the Advocacy Committee today! No advocacy experience required. Just a passion for the profession of Landscape Architecture.

This committee assists in planning the yearly Advocacy Day event at the Georgia State Capitol. Coordinate with GAASLA Lobbyist liaison and inform executive committee members of important policy positions. Keeps members informed of important advocacy issues including via social media

 

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee works to improve the visibility and public awareness of the Georgia Chapter and the profession of landscape architecture as a whole. ·       

Responsibilities include communicating important news and issues between our chapter and all members. Work with the Newsletter Editor to compose and distribute a bi-weekly newsletter with event listings and news. Post events and news on social media (we have accounts on FB, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIN). Produce all graphic needs for other committees/events to ensure graphic consistency for our branding. Seeking out relevant member projects and events that could garner local media coverage and actively promote these events.

Experience with basic Squarespace web maintenance is helpful. Understanding of social media is very helpful.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is responsible for recruiting new members and for maintaining current members. Contacting lapsed members via phone/email to encourage renewal. Outreach to prospective members (students/other) on benefits of membership. It is also responsible for seeking volunteering, networking, and continuing education opportunities to help fresh landscape architecture professionals kickstart their career and find their influence on the job market and in the community.

 

Awards Committee

The Awards Committee coordinates all of the details for our annual awards program. This includes creating the call for submissions and awards criteria, organizing entries and coordinating with the jury chapter, and organizing our annual awards ceremony. The committee also assists eligible landscape architects to apply to become elevated to the ASLA Council of Fellows, and other national and state honors. Committee members are expected to assist in considering which individuals are eligible to apply and help coordinate and guide the nomination submission.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee (DEI)

The DEI committee is actively looking for a leader to take on the role of chair of the committee, as well as committee members. If you are interested please click the link below. As a profession and as an organization, we strive to be representative and reflective of the communities we serve. Unfortunately, the reality has not yet caught up to the ambition.

Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee meet monthly via Zoom. This committee focuses on initiatives aimed at recruitment, retention, mentorship, training, outreach, and community discussion for our students, members, and communities. Diversity involves celebrating differences based on gender, race, sexual orientation, identity, culture, and ethnicity. Equity is defined as fairness, and inclusion means “for all people.

 

Continuing Education Committee

A new addition to the GAASLA Executive committee structure. This subcommittee will report directly to the Communication Chair. The Continuing Education Committee is responsible for: Conducting or facilitating continuing education activities for members. Adapting and enhancing the continuing education program to meet the needs of accreditation programs to which GAASLA members belong. Keeping abreast of continuing education opportunities offered by institutions and other organizations and assisting in making these opportunities known to Society members.

A primary responsibility of the Continuing Education Committee is to provide educational opportunities for members

 

Golf Tournament Committee

This committee helps plan, fundraise, and recruit golfers for our annual golf outing, which is typically held early Fall of each year. Proceeds from the golf outing typically raise $5,000 in scholarship funding for students in the University of Georgia College of Environment and Design. GAASLA offers a BLA and the new MLA Scholarship to students who are UGA’s emerging leaders in landscape architecture and are involved in ASLA
