Landscape Architect & Planner

Full Job Description

Augusta National Golf Club is seeking a qualified Landscape Architect/Planner to fulfill an exciting role in our Campus Development Department. This position will require an individual that is comfortable working collaboratively with both internal and external consultants and subject matter experts. A successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the design of Club projects from schematic design through construction documents across a wide variety of projects. A significant amount of time will be spent in the office/studio environment but work will require some time on-site reviewing existing conditions and checking on construction progress.
Essential Functions of the Job

  • Collaboratively works with the Nursery Department and other ANGC departments to enhance existing and future campus land use and landscape features

  • Collaboratively develops concept & schematic designs and topography mapping with responsibility for the preparation of presentation drawings, golf course models, and narratives

  • Refines concepts with regard to Master Planning, preliminary plat work, layout, grading plans, and landscape plans

  • Works with third-party vendors integrating player data into course design.

  • Completes concept drawings and graphic work for internal concept golf course designs in relation to collected data

  • Creates mapping that is integrated into the strategy and GIS set up of the Master’s Tournament

  • Conducts feasibility studies for internal stakeholder review

  • Generates cut/fill calculations for on course and off-campus projects

  • Completes plan specifications, project estimates, and budgets for Capital Projects

  • Produces and modifies CAD files as necessary

  • Integrates landscape and planning elements into a unified design for use internally and with our outside business and community partners

  • Participates in design and project meetings

  • Investigates and reviews local, state, and federal codes and zoning for project compliance

  • Analyze environmental reports on land conditions, such as drainage and water usage

  • Understanding site limitations, such as drainage, existing structures, and topographical elements.

  • Works in collaborative integrated teams of professionals that include civil engineers, architects, building systems engineers, and planners and communicates information to the Planning & Development Manager/Supervisor

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides in-house design and technical input on all assigned projects including ANGC’s community supporting efforts and building the game.

  • Creates electronic project files for later outside peer review and approvals

  • Collaborates with outside vendors on their platforms to analyze collected data and its impacts on course conditions.

  • Drafts and presents reports on topics related to projects such as environmental impact statements and right-of-way/easement descriptions

  • Creates graphics and modeling of ANGC projects

  • Provides completed landscape plans for submission with project plans

  • Assists nursery with ANGC landscape design and reviews landscape installation in both renovated spaces and new construction areas

  • Provides designs consistent with ANGC’s sustainability and design intent

  • Assists with project field checks

  • Collects photo documentation of projects and archives those photos

  • Travels as needed to broaden experience, collect data, or continue education

Qualifications (required unless stated otherwise):
Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:

  • Experienced with CAD Software operations; knowledge of Revit/BIM and/or Civil3D preferred

  • Knowledgeable in Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, or similar modeling software programs

  • Working knowledge of printers, plotters, and scanners

  • Reasonable working knowledge of GPS, GIS, and surveying technology and the ability to integrate outside surveying work into ANGC master files

  • Ability to read architectural and civil plans and understand graphic scales and drawing types

  • Ability to take field measurements and produce basic plan as-builts

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects with a high attention to detail

  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; can communicate clearly and effectively, both verbal and written form

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

  • Demonstrates a high level of creativity, innovative thinking, and problem-solving by making recommendations or presenting alternative solutions to problems

Experience/Education:

  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or related discipline preferred with a minimum of five (5) years of experience

  • Licensed in current state, must obtain GA license within six months of employment.

  • Familiarity with the golf course environment, gaming systems, and the game of golf is preferred but not required

Required License(s):
Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully completes the Club’s internal motor vehicle training program.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. However, the employee may be required to work outside in extreme heat, cold, rain, wind or inclement weather as the demands of the position so dictate.

Projected Work Schedule:
Normal work hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as dictated by the needs of the business.

Physical Demands
This position is occasionally required to move and carry up to 50 pounds with moderate bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. There are required intervals of walking, standing, stair climbing, and sitting during the day. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to: computer, printer, scanner, plotter, copier, two-way radio system, phone system, GPS equipment, and golf cart.
